Although there are still debates, many consider the Tumbling "E" vision test to be comparable if not equal with the Landolt "C" test. Both tests use only one optotype placed in different directions. However, when compared, both the Tumbling "E" and the "gold standard" Landolt "C" have provided high visual acuity thresholds. In some cases the Tumbling "E" has tested better. But, both tests are considered useful for detecting Astigmatism and remain to be the most popular and accurate in alternative vision tests.
