By using only one optotype, the "E", this vision test has multiple and unique uses that other vision tests may not be able to achieve. The Tumbling "E" vision tests provide a way to test patients that are not familiar with the Roman alphabet. Patients simply have to gesture the direction that they see the "E" facing. The Tumbling "E" test is also helpful for patients that are mute or illiterate.
