5 Symbol tests are instrumental for acuity testing children. Unlike other symbol tests, Patti Pics charts are calibrated from Sloan standards. This means that if the child is tested using Patti Pics symbol tests while they are young, when they reach the age to begin using standard Sloan vision tests, there will be no mistaken loss or gain of lines. This makes a smoother transition between the two types of charts, and reduces mistakes.
