5% contrast levels are the middle of the popular contrast sensitivity percents. Routine contrast vision testing utilizes 5 contrast levels beginning with 1.25%. This contrast level is followed by 2.5%, 5%, 10% and 25%. By using steps of contrast levels, it is easier and more precise to determine which is the lowest contrast level visible to each patient.
