The Landolt "C" vision chart is considered the "gold standard" of alternative vision tests. The use of a single optotype helps to make the test universal. Even patients that are not familiar with the Roman Alphabet can identify which direction they see the broken or missing piece of the letter C. It is also helpful in testing patients that are illiterate or mute. The Landolt "C" chart is great for detecting signs of Astigmatism.
