ETDRS format is a highly calibrated test design. It features 10 Sloan optotypes that have been specifically chosen because of their difficulty level and appearance in the 5x5 grid. This calibration is intended to maintain a constant difficulty level from the beginning to the end of testing. Furthermore, each line uses 5 optotypes and a geometric progression throughout the eye test.
